Asics has turned their former flagship on Oxford Street into an outlet branch for anyone hoping to get a good deal. Asics offers a great range of sportswear across a variety of activities for women, men and kids with a particular focus on running gear and apparel for trail running and tennis.
Asics is an acronym for “Anima Sana In Corpore Sano”, a Latin phrase meaning “a healthy mind in a healthy body.” This philosophy is at the heart of everything they do and goes beyond much more than just the product. A running club leaves from the branch at 527 Oxford Street every Monday and Friday evening with the aim of motivating each other to be the best you can be and have fun. Tickets should be booked in advance and lockers and toilet facilities are available at the store for you to use.
The brand was founded in 1949 in Kobe, Japan by Kihachiro Onitsuka who wanted to lift the spirits of young people after the war through athletics. His company, then called Onitsuka Tiger, made a name for itself with innovative sports shoes in the 50s and 60s including basketball shoes, the world’s first ever wrestling shoe and the “tabi” split toe marathon running shoe. Today they are still famous for their high-tech sporting footwear which is developed in the Asics Research Institute for Sports Science. It’s one of the many reasons they’re a popular choice for Olympic marathon runners around the world.
