Longchamp
229-247 Regent Street
For those in the market for a new handbag, French brand Longchamp’s Regent Street store should be first on your list. Renowned for beautifully crafted bags, embossed with their signature racehorse emblem, the family-owned business also produces shoes and clothing, which are showcased at Paris Fashion Week.
As a truly global brand, with stores in over 100 different countries, Regent Street is an ideal location for its mix of high-end local shoppers and the many tourists who frequent it, and is the largest of their three UK stores. It was opened in 2013 with a star-studded bash during London Fashion Week. Guests included Kate Moss, Georgia May Jagger, Suki Waterhouse, David Gandy, and long-term Longchamp ambassador Alexa Chung.
The brand was founded in 1948, originally selling leather-covered smokers’ pipes, and they branched out into accessories in the 1950s, soon becoming one of the most recognisable names in luxury. In 1993 they launched their famous ‘Le Pliage’ bag, which has sold over 30 million worldwide and counting. In the Regent Street flagship, an entire mezzanine area has been dedicated to the bestselling ‘it bag’.
A further two floors make up the 5,000 square-feet store with women’s collection of ready-to-wear, bags, shoes, and accessories on the ground level and luggage and men’s accessories upstairs. Light and spacious, the brand’s dedication to quality materials and craftsmanship as manufacturers, as well as designers, is reflected in the use of natural stone, marble, glass, wood and leather.
In celebration of the premium accessories label’s love of art, a kinetic sculpture has been installed above the mezzanine. Created by Royal College of Art collective, Troika, and titled ‘Homograph’, it consists of multiple blades of yellow anodized aluminium that move continuously in a hypnotic way to create different shapes that look different from every angle you view them.
From coin purses, to backpacks, to wheeled suitcases, and every size in between, a Longchamp bag is a life-long investment in style and quality.
