100 Jermyn Street
You’ll find branches of Charles Tyrwhitt shirtmakers all over the city, but they are so proud of their Jermyn Street flagship that you’ll find it written on their logo. Their original store still resides on the street and stocks suits, ties, shoes, outerwear, casualwear, accessories, womenswear, and of course, shirts.
Founded in 1986 by a student at Bristol university, Nicholas Charles Tyrwhitt Wheeler, it started life as a mail order business, bridging the gap between high street and bespoke with quality shirts at good prices. They source from all around the world as well as a number of British suppliers, including Northampton-made shoes. It wasn’t until 1997 that they had the opportunity to expand into a physical retail space, but the destination of such a store was an obvious choice. Serving the many international businessmen in the area, as well as tourists and students, it offers a great range of formalwear in the place to go looking for it.
Their confidence in their shirts extends to a six-month guarantee for customers, offering a no-questions-asked refund or exchange in that time. A seamless customer service experience is at the core of the brand too, from the warm welcome you’ll receive in the store to a convenient ‘Click & Collect’ service available from their online shop.
You’ll also find an in-house tailor and shoe-shine service for the finishing touches in the shop, which covers two floors. The space itself gives the classic gentleman’s club feel a modern twist with polished dark wood and leather upholstered benches sitting alongside neon signs and bright yellow walkways for a touch of British wit.
The Charles Tyrwhitt flagship store on Jermyn Street is the only branch to offer personal shopping appointments too. The complimentary service takes place in their private suite for a more relaxed experienced, with refreshments served, while their advisers get to understand your needs and do the leg work to find the perfect items for your wardrobe, offering style advice along the way.
