Lyonesse centres on Elaine (Kristin Thomas Scott), a once-famed actress who disappears mysteriously, living reclusively for 30 years. No one knows what happened to Elaine and why she disappeared. After decades of elusive silence, Elaine is ready to illustriously reemerge with a story to unveil, and young film executive Kate (Lily James) is the one who wants to help her tell it.
Set remotely in Elaine’s home in Cornwall, where the legendary kingdom of Lyonesse originates, her disappearance and story are as mysterious as the myth of Lyonesse itself.
A new play by Penelope Skinner and directed by Ian Rickson, Lyonesse is an intriguing drama exploring revenge, tragedy, and storytelling with humour and passion. Skinner has proved a talented modern playwright, with a nomination and award for Most Promising Playwright for the Evening Standard Award.
Lyonnese will have its debut at the Harold Pinter Theatre for a limited run. Harold Pinter Theater was built in the autumn of 1881 and was originally called the Royal Comedy Theatre until it was renamed after the famous playwright, Harold Pinter, in 2011. Several talented and famed names have graced the stage of the theatre since its opening, and the production of Lyonesse brings with it a dynamic and highly awarded cast. Starring Kristin Thomas Scott and Lily James, who have worked together on screen before in the Netflix drama, Rebecca, the two will be working alongside each other once again in London’s West End for this new production. Also joining them on stage in supporting roles are James Corrigan, Doon Mackichan, and Sara Powell.
Lyonesse begins on October 17th and will run for 10 weeks with the final show on December 23rd.
