Lyonesse centres on Elaine (Kristin Thomas Scott), a once-famed actress who disappears mysteriously, living reclusively for 30 years. No one knows what happened to Elaine and why she disappeared. After decades of elusive silence, Elaine is ready to illustriously reemerge with a story to unveil, and young film executive Kate (Lily James) is the one who wants to help her tell it.
Set remotely in Elaine’s home in Cornwall, where the legendary kingdom of Lyonesse originates, her disappearance and story are as mysterious as the myth of Lyonesse itself.
A new play by Penelope Skinner and directed by Ian Rickson, Lyonesse is an intriguing drama exploring revenge, tragedy, and storytelling with humour and passion. Skinner has proved a talented modern playwright, with a nomination and award for Most Promising Playwright for the Evening Standard Award.
