Close Up – The Twiggy Musical

Everyone knows British cultural icon Twiggy, but how many people actually know the true tale behind her stardom?  A young working-class woman from Neasden, young Lesley Lawson faced snootiness everywhere she turned. Growing up in a time plagued with sexism, fame seemed impossible. In spite of this, she somehow defied all the odds. In an extraordinary rags-to-riches tale, she escaped from the small suburbs of London and travelled to the big city of Los Angeles. In doing so, she transformed herself from Lesley Lawson to Twiggy! Told alongside an exciting score of pop hits, Close Up is an inspiring story that shows us what we can achieve when we really put our minds to it.

Close Up is written and directed by Ben Elton, who is primarily known for having written some of TV’s greatest sitcoms. Elton was part of the creative team behind 1980s sensation Blackadder, which is often ranked as one of the greatest shows of all time. His more recent work includes Upstart Crow, which has been similarly acclaimed. He is no stranger to theatre work however and has even won an Olivier Award in recognition of his writing talents. Elton perhaps most famously wrote We Will Rock You, which is one of the most successful British musicals of all time. As a consequence, many are eager to see whether Close Up will measure up to Elton’s previous success.

Close Up – The Twiggy Musical is one of London’s most highly anticipated new shows – telling the story of a cultural icon and written by one of Britain’s most popular comedians, this is a must-see!
