About the show

Some people build fences to keep people out, and other people build fences to keep people in. Ray Fearon stars as Troy Maxson in August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece Fences, directed by Daniel Bailey, at the Lyric Hammersmith for a strictly limited season from 6 October 2026.

Troy Maxson has cheated death once, but the past keeps closing in. On Pittsburgh’s streets he cracks jokes and spins stories, yet at home the pressure is building. His wife Rose holds the family together: she sees a changing world, and hopes their son Cory might step into it with more freedom than Troy ever had. But when dreams collide and tempers flare, the Maxsons edge towards a reckoning that could reshape everything they know.

One of the towering works of the American stage - winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play - Fences is staged here by director Daniel Bailey. Book your tickets now.
