Tidings of disaster are on the way as the hopelessly accident-prone Cornley Amateur Drama Society set their sights on Charles Dickens’s festive masterpiece, A Christmas Carol.
Hailed as ‘a Dickensian disaster to savour’ (Guardian) and an ‘irresistible Christmas treat’ (WhatsOnStage), the show returns to the West End after a sold-out run at London’s Apollo Theatre. It is the work of Mischief, the multi award-winning company whose hits include The Play That Goes Wrong, Peter Pan Goes Wrong and The Comedy About a Bank Robbery.
Naturally, everything that can go wrong does exactly that. Scenery refuses to behave, cast members disappear at the worst possible moment, cues descend into muddle, and a bitter quarrel breaks out over who gets to play Scrooge. As the Cornley players stumble through the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his three ghostly visitors, the only real question is whether they can hold it together or whether calamity will strike all over again.
