About the show

On the day of his high school graduation, Billy finds a trunk of letters written to him by his late mother - the woman he had always been told abandoned him as a child. With his best friend Scoot, he sets out to uncover the truth about her past: the old romances, the family secrets and the enduring love that reveal who she really was, and who he is meant to become.

Wild About You is a new musical with a book by Dani Stoller and music and lyrics by Chilina Kennedy (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical). Its nouveau-folk, pop, country-pop and soul score draws on the sound of artists like Joni Mitchell and Carole King. Directed by Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages), the production makes its fully staged world premiere at the Charing Cross Theatre.

Wild About You plays at the Charing Cross Theatre from 18 January to 10 April 2027. Book your tickets now.

Frequently asked questions

On the day of his high-school graduation, Billy discovers a trunk of letters from his late mother, the woman he was always told had abandoned him. With his best friend he sets out to uncover her real story, unearthing old romances and family secrets that reveal who she was and who he is meant to become.

It is an original musical, with a new score by Chilina Kennedy, who starred in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. The songs draw on a warm nouveau-folk, pop and country-pop sound rather than recycling existing hits.

It is recommended for ages twelve and up. Its themes of losing a parent and uncovering family secrets are emotional and heartfelt, making it a good fit for teenagers and adults rather than young children.

Expect a nouveau-folk, pop, country-pop and soul score in the spirit of singer-songwriters like Joni Mitchell, carrying a tender, personal story. It is melodic and contemporary rather than big and brassy.

It is a small, intimate theatre where you are close to the performers throughout, so no seat feels far from this heartfelt story. You can compare every price band when you pick your seats above.
