Aeschylus’ towering trilogy of murder, revenge and the birth of justice arrives at the Bridge Theatre in a powerful new staging by acclaimed writer-director Simon Stone, whose searing contemporary reinventions of classic drama have made him one of the most exciting voices in world theatre.
Written almost 2,500 years ago, The Oresteia follows the cursed House of Atreus across a chain of bloodshed: a father who sacrifices his daughter for victory in war, a wife who takes her revenge, and a son torn between vengeance and conscience as the cycle threatens to consume them all. Stone transplants this ancient myth into a recognisably modern family, haunted by their part in an unjust war and trapped in inherited cycles of trauma and violence.
Designed by Lizzie Clachan with music by Katrina Rose, this is one of theatre’s great foundational texts reimagined for our own divided times - urgent, visceral and devastating. The company is led by Tom Glynn-Carney, David Morrissey, Mary-Louise Parker and Rosie Sheehy. Book your tickets now.
