The Story

Into the Woods — London

Bridge Theatre, Potters Fields Park

What happens after happily ever after? Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's beloved Tony Award-winning musical takes Cinderella, Little Red Ridinghood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel — and sends them all into the woods at the same time. Their stories tangle together in ways that are funny, moving and increasingly dark, asking what we truly want in life and what we're willing to sacrifice to get it.

This dazzling new revival at the Bridge Theatre is directed by Jordan Fein, fresh from his Olivier Award-winning production of Fiddler on the Roof, with set and costumes by Olivier and Tony Award-winner Tom Scutt. Starring Kate Fleetwood as the Witch, Jamie Parker as the Baker and two-time Olivier winner Katie Brayben as the Baker's Wife, it has been hailed as one of the finest productions of the show ever staged.

"A sublime production of a sublime musical with a sublime cast." — Time Out ★★★★★

At the heart of the story is a Baker and his Wife, cursed with childlessness by a neighbouring Witch. To break the spell they must venture into the forest and gather four magical objects — but the woods are full of other travellers on quests of their own. Cinderella is chasing a prince. Jack needs to sell his cow. Little Red Ridinghood is on her way to grandmother's house. And Rapunzel is longing to see the world beyond her tower.

The first act delivers classic fairy-tale magic. The second tears it apart. When wishes are granted and choices have consequences, the woods grow dark — and survival depends on facing hard truths together. With iconic songs including Children Will Listen, No One Is Alone and Giants in the Sky, Into the Woods is Sondheim at his most profound and most human. Running until May 2026 — book now before this strictly limited run ends.
