About the show

The multi-award-winning master of mind control returns to the West End. After a sell-out tour of the UK and Ireland, Derren Brown: Only Human plays a strictly limited season at the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, and it finds Britain’s most celebrated psychological illusionist at the very top of his game.

Over more than two decades Derren Brown has redefined what a live magic show can be, trading top hats and rabbits for something far stranger and more personal: a blend of magic, suggestion, misdirection and psychology that leaves audiences questioning what they just saw, and what they believe. Only Human turns that gift inward, to the quirks and frailties that make us who we are, in an evening that is as thought-provoking as it is jaw-dropping.

An Evening of the Impossible

As ever, the less you know going in, the better. What can be said is that Only Human is built around Brown’s uncanny ability to read, steer and surprise a room full of strangers, drawing ordinary audience members into moments that feel genuinely impossible. It is funny, warm and frequently unsettling, and it builds to the kind of finale that has become his trademark. Audiences leave sworn to secrecy, and glad to be.

This is Derren Brown’s latest West End outing in a career full of them, following acclaimed runs such as Showman, Underground and Secret. Written by Brown with Andrew O’Connor and Stephen Long, and directed by O’Connor, it is a reminder of why he remains in a category entirely of his own.

Why It’s Worth the Watch

Here is why Only Human is one of the hottest tickets of the season:

  • A genuine master at work. Derren Brown is the most awarded and most imitated mind-reader of his generation, and seeing him live is an experience no screen can match.
  • No two nights the same. Because so much depends on the audience in the room, every performance is unique - you are watching something that will never happen in quite the same way again.
  • Astonishing and hilarious. For all the mind-bending, Only Human is hugely entertaining, with Brown’s dry wit running through the whole evening.
  • A strictly limited season. It plays the Apollo only until 30 January 2027, direct from a sell-out tour, so the window to catch it is short.
  • Operating Since 2015

Frequently asked questions

It is a live stage show of psychological illusion, mind-reading and suggestion from Derren Brown, the multi-award-winning master of mind control. Only Human turns his attention to what makes us human - memory, belief and the strange workings of the mind - in an evening that is by turns astonishing, funny and genuinely unsettling. No two nights are quite the same.

Yes. As with all of Derren Brown's shows, audience members are chosen to take part, and much of the wonder comes from watching ordinary people caught up in the impossible. You are never forced to take part, but a willingness to play along is part of the fun. Audiences are also asked to keep the secrets of the show to themselves afterwards.

It is recommended for ages 12 and above. It is not frightening in a horror sense, but the themes and humour are pitched at teenagers and adults rather than young children, and the show runs to a late finish on evening performances.

For a show built on close observation and audience participation, the Stalls and the front of the Dress Circle put you closest to the action and in the thick of the atmosphere. The Apollo is an intimate Victorian house, so sightlines are good throughout. You can compare every price band when you pick your seats above.

Only Human plays a strictly limited season at the Apollo Theatre until 30 January 2027, direct from a sell-out UK and Ireland tour. With Derren Brown's West End runs always in high demand, booking early is the surest way to get the dates you want.
