Macbeth is being directed by Abigail Graham, who is no stranger to directing Shakespearean works. She previously directed a London production of The Merchant of Venice, earning five-star reviews for her masterful staging.
If you want the opportunity to see a first-class production of a Shakespearean play in its natural habitat, then this is the place to be Three witches meet in the dead of night to prophesise the future of Scotland, and among these predictions is the belief that nobleman Macbeth will soon acquire the nation’s throne. Macbeth is unsure whether he is truly destined for such greatness, but his wife assures him that the throne is in their sights. With the words of the witches playing on his mind, Macbeth hastens to act, and at last, the throne is his for the taking. He soon discovers however that power fails to make him happy, and he becomes burdened with paranoia and insanity. A thrilling cautionary tale of unchecked ambition, Macbeth is often considered one of Shakespeare’s greatest plays.
Read MoreThis production is being staged at Shakespeare’s Globe which is, of course, the ideal venue to watch a Shakespeare production. The theatre is a reconstruction of the Elizabethan playhouse where the legendary playwright would stage his works, dating back to the early 1600s. While the original theatre was destroyed by a fire, the modern Globe was founded by actor and director Sam Wannamaker in tribute to The Bard. The experience of watching a Shakespeare production at the Globe is unrivalled; you will find yourself transported back in time to the Jacobean era. There is nothing quite like it
