One of the most electrifying rock operas ever written returns to the London stage this summer. Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar follows the final days of Jesus Christ as seen through the eyes of Judas — questioning faith, loyalty, and the very nature of belief. The iconic score crackles with raw energy: I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Gethsemane, Superstar — music that has reverberated for over five decades.

“Gorgeous, thrilling, heavenly musical.”
The Guardian

The award-winning Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production — directed by Tim Sheader and choreographed by Olivier Award-winner Drew McOnie, with design by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Tom Scutt — was a sensation when it launched in 2016, winning the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. Ten years on, the entire creative team reunites at the iconic London Palladium for an 11-week strictly limited season, with a 19-piece live orchestra providing the full rock grandeur the score demands.

Leading the company is Sam Ryder — the Essex-born Eurovision star and global recording artist — making his stage debut in the title role. Opposite him, Tyrone Huntley returns to the role of Judas that earned him an Olivier Award nomination, alongside Desmonda Cathabel as Mary Magdalene and David Thaxton as Pontius Pilate. And in one of the most talked-about casting decisions of the year, six very different stars — Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Simon Russell Beale, Richard Armitage, Boy George, Layton Williams and Julian Clary — share the deliciously camp role of King Herod across the run.
