The odds are ever in your favour — but only one tribute can survive. In a dystopian future, North America has become Panem: a nation of twelve impoverished districts held under the iron grip of the Capitol. Each year, as punishment and spectacle, every district is forced to send two young people — tributes — into the Hunger Games. A televised fight to the death. When sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen's younger sister is chosen, she volunteers to take her place. What follows will change everything.

The world premiere of The Hunger Games On Stage is the first-ever live theatrical adaptation of Suzanne Collins's globally celebrated novel and the Lionsgate blockbuster films. It is playing at the Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre — a 1,200-seat arena purpose-built for this production at a cost of £26 million, featuring London's largest hydraulic stage, audience seating that moves during the show, live pyrotechnics and performer flying above the crowd.

"An extraordinary feat of theatrical engineering — the arena has never felt more real, more dangerous, or more alive."

Adapted by Olivier Award-winning playwright Conor McPherson — the mind behind Girl from the North Country and The Weir — and directed by Matthew Dunster, who brought us 2:22 A Ghost Story, this is a production that refuses to simply retell the story. McPherson, who received permission from Collins to draw on details from later novels in the series, has written something new: a stage work that interrogates power, rebellion and what it costs to become a symbol.

The theatre itself is part of the experience. Seats are divided into districts — District 12 is the stage. When a tribute dies, their section of the audience lights red. The action happens above you, around you and directly in front of you. There are no wings — cast members and set pieces emerge from beneath the floor or descend from the ceiling. John Malkovich appears as President Coriolanus Snow, his performance pre-recorded and projected across the arena.

The franchise encompasses five novels, over 100 million copies sold worldwide, and a film series that has grossed more than $3.4 billion globally. This is the story as you have never experienced it — and an unmissable theatrical event of 2026.
