    Criterion Theatre

  • Duration

    150 minutes

  • Age Restrictions

    10+ years

Bleak Expectations tells us the story of young Pip Bin – a Victorian gentleman who, as you may have guessed from his name, is responsible for having created the bin. Despite his achievement, Pip’s family have been torn apart, so he takes it upon himself to set things right. Alongside his trusted best friend Harry Biscuit, he faces off against his ironically named guardian Mr. Gently Benevolent as well as numerous other adversaries. Battling mistaken intensities and numerous conspiracy plots, will Pip prevail in his quest to save his family and true love? Only a visit to see Bleak Expectations will give us the answer!

This hilarious production of Bleak Expectations has a rather unique trait to it, with a different guest star joining the ensemble cast every week. And these aren’t just any guest starts – TV stars and comedy legends will be swapping in and out of the show, featuring some of Britain’s most famous celebrities. Guest stars have included broadcaster Dermot O’Leary, actor Robert Lindsay, and perhaps most impressively, comedian Stephen Fry. All guest stars have pre-announced dates, so if there’s someone, in particular, you would like to see, be sure to check in advance!

The show is based off of the award-winning radio series, which ran from 2007 until 2012. The series was extremely popular with audiences, spawning both a televisual successor and a novel adaptation. This play is now the latest tribute to the original series, showing that this story still holds a place in many people’s hearts even after a whole decade has passed. If you too were a fan of the original show, then this is a must-see!
