Turnbull & Asser
71-72 Jermyn Street
Prince Charles’ personal shirtmaker, Turnbull & Asser, offers its largest array of garments and accessories at their Jermyn Street store. Though the bespoke service is run out of their branches on Davies Street and Bury Street, just around the corner, the flagship offers the largest choice of ready-to-wear shirts, suits, jackets, trousers, knitwear, underwear, nightwear, accessories, and leather goods.
Opened in 1903, Jermyn Street is also the oldest retail space for the brand which was founded in 1885 by John Arthur Turnbull and Ernest Asser. The duo was the perfect pairing of an excellent craftsman and a dedicated salesman, and today you will still find the best product with the best service. Michael Searle has been manager at the Jermyn Street flagship since 1997, ensuring a consistently great shopping experience in the traditionally outfitted space, which includes many original furnishings from when they first opened their doors.
The shirts are made at their factories in Gloucester and Sidcup which employ over 100 experienced and rigorously trained cutters. Artfully pieced together from 34 individual parts, and 13 mother of pearl buttons, their shirts come in seven different collar variations, three cuff choices, and three fit styles. They are made from the finest and rarest Egyptian or West Indian Sea Island cotton. Their level of quality is highly regarded by their peers too and Savile Row tailor Huntsman entrusts them with the production of their shirts.
Turnball & Asser are not just known for the quality of their British-made shirts but also their flare for design which has led to the nickname, the ‘Peacocks of Jermyn Street’. Adding a little English eccentricity into their world, Dean Gomilseck-Cole is Head of Design for the company, a man known in the industry for being inspired by mysterious places and forgotten fables. A regular exhibitor at London Fashion Week Men’s, it’s not uncommon to see stylish show goers dressed in Turnbull & Asser. They’ve also dressed the ultimate British style icon, James Bond.
