The Royal Opera House Arcade has recently been developed with a focus on luxury accessories and gifting, creating the perfect spot for Mulberry to open its doors. The British brand, famous for its leather accessories discretely branded with the instantly recognisable tree logo, opened here in 2016. The store carries a selection from every product category in the label’s repertoire, covering women’s and men’s bags, womenwear, shoes, and soft accessories.
Founded in 1971 in Somerset, where the company’s headquarters still remain, Roger Saul and his mother started by making leather belts, but soon expanded into beautifully constructed handbags and other luxurious fashion items. He named the company after the trees he passed on his way to school every day and his sister designed the logo. Built on this foundation, family, a love of nature, and refined Britishness are still at the heart of what they do today.
Over the years, the brand has been placed in the trusted hands of experienced Creative Directors who have bridged the gap between their countryside heritage and craftsmanship, and trend-driven style for town living. They have helped the company to grow and make its mark in fashion history by making some of the most desirable ‘it bags’ around, notably the Bayswater, the Trout satchel, and the Alexa (named after style icon Alexa Chung). Other celebrity fans include Anna Friel and the Duchess of Cambridge.
Mulberry is dedicated to producing as much of its products as possible in its Somerset factory, The Rookery, and in 2013 it bucked the trend for the struggling British manufacturing industry and opened a second location, The Willows, to keep up with demand. It is now the UK’s largest manufacturer of leather goods.
The store perfectly complements Mulberry’s online shop, offering a Click & Collect service, refunds and exchanges for goods bought online and, if you can’t find the product that you’re looking for, ask the staff to help you locate and order it online.
