Alexander McQueen

Though many will know Alexander McQueen for his dramatic womenswear, tailoring is a crucial element in the brand’s DNA, and why you’ll find their menswear flagship on Savile Row. London born and bred Lee McQueen trained as an apprentice on the storied street before setting up his own business, which instantly attracted attention for his creative take on traditional tailoring, executed with immense skill.
Number 9 Savile Row saw the return of British fashion’s enfant terrible to the area in 2013, this time with his name above the door. Dedicated purely to menswear, it carries ready-to-wear as well as a bespoke service. Book a private consultation with the Master Tailor through their website or by phoning the boutique for a truly personal offering that offers an extensive range of fabrics, patterns, and print choices. After no less than three fittings, you’ll walk away with something you’re guaranteed to be truly happy with. Customers can expect the entire process to take around six weeks.
While you can expect authentic techniques to be used in the making of an Alexander McQueen suit, the style is certainly considered younger and more contemporary with the likes of Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston, and Tom Hardy regularly spotted wearing the brand on the red carpet. If you like a slim fit, you’ll be happy with the choice here, and if you want to show you’re a true fan of the designer label opt for their trademark pagoda shoulder.
You’ll find the showroom on the ground floor, a bright and airy space with flecks of the label’s signature gothic influences including carved white plaster Vanitas wall features and display cases with clawed feet. The bespoke workshop is located downstairs. Concept designers David Collins Studio has created a curious mix of old and new, befitting of the brand, with details including a portrait of the late designer at the entrance and a glass cabinet with temporary art displays at the back.
