British retailer Matalan has a family-friendly focus on its budget fashion and homeware available on Oxford Street. The three-storey space covers 1500 square metres and is the only Matalan store in central London. Still owned by the Hargreaves family, who founded the chain in the north of England in 1985, the Oxford Street branch carries a selection for women, children and babies, including mini-me styles for cute matching parent and child looks. Womenswear includes petite and plus-size lines. Sportswear and gym gear get their dedicated section and shoes. You’ll also find a range of suitcases and luggage accessories catering to the West End’s many international visitors.
Child-friendly initiatives spread beyond the product offering. Playground-inspired features, wall-mounted toys in the changing rooms and customer toilets are intended to make your shopping experience as easy as possible. Matalan regularly runs initiatives with children’s charities, including NSPCC and Alder Hey Hospital, from charity product lines to employee fundraisers.
The Oxford Street branch was opened in 2015 as one of Matalan’s only city centre locations, providing a convenient new spot to shop in addition to its many retail park stores. The ribbon was cut on opening day by fashion designer Julien MacDonald who has previously collaborated with the brand on an exclusive line of high fashion looks at a more affordable price. A click-and-collect service is available at the store and, if you order before 4 pm, can be available the next day.
