With a history dating back to Copenhagen in 1904, Georg Jensen took the next step in their story by building its UK flagship on Mount Street in 2015. The Danish brand is synonymous with Art Nouveau style from its early days, and now reviving it with a modern sensibility across jewellery, watches, silverware and home accessories.
The Georg Jensen name has had a presence in the UK since 1926 but its rising popularity in recent years has led to several new openings across the country, though none quite as spectacular as the two-floor Mayfair branch. The masterpiece of Danish interior architect David Thulstrup, the sleek monochrome design echoes Scandinavian minimalism while creating a gallery-like feel with the jewellery and watches presented as works of art. Dark walnut, honed terrazzo, and black steel stand strong against the light grey walls. Highly-respected members of the design industry were in attendance at the launch including the late Dame Zaha Hadid, Tom Dixon and Ilse Crawford.
Each category for the brand has its own dedicated section, slowly unveiling more and more from the brand as you travel through it. On the ground floor, silver and gold jewellery greet you, tastefully separated in two sections, followed by a dedicated men’s area which offers belts, pens, bar accessories, watches, cufflinks and more.
Downstairs in the boutique, the heritage of the brand, which has a Royal Warrant from the Queen of Denmark, is proudly showcased. Vintage silverware and jewellery show the design evolution of the brand, and the area also acts as a private shopping space. Hollowware is also available on the lower level.
